Psycroptic’s new album The Pulse Of Annihilation opens a fresh chapter in a band history spanning more than 20 years. After the 2025 single “Architects Of Extinction,” the first full-length on Metal Blade Records arrives as a clear statement: these Australians mean business.

Guitarist and songwriter Joe Haley calls the record a culmination of everything that has come before: “We never force anything stylistically, we let the songs come into being — progressive, but unmistakably Psycroptic. For me this is our most epic, thrashiest, most technical and at the same time grooviest album yet.”

As with earlier releases, Haley produced the album at his Crawlspace Productions studio. Psycroptic’s ninth album serves up nine tracks that breeze by in roughly 40 minutes — and stick with you afterward.

Haley’s impressive riffs carry a lot of weight, but the record also thrives on careful arrangements. Songs like “To Embrace This Curse” showcase the finely balanced interplay between vocalists Jason Peppiatt and Jason Keyser, whose counterpoints add tension and character.

“Our Pillars Fall” functions as the album’s centerpiece: nearly seven minutes that fuse thrash groove, melodic death elements and subtle progressive moments. The final third of the track delivers an unexpected and convincing twist.

That Psycroptic never abandon their roots only adds to the album’s credibility; at the same time, they demonstrate how to surprise and evolve within a defined sound.

Whether you’ve followed the band for decades or are just starting out, The Pulse Of Annihilation is a potent chapter in the Psycroptic canon and a worthy addition to any metal collection.

Beyond fans of technical death metal, the record should also appeal to listeners of Lamb Of God or Meshuggah — it marries precision, groove and raw force in an intelligent way.
