Judas - Metal Maiden of the Month

The Metal Pit is proud to feature Judas from Houston, United States as our newest Metal Maiden of the Month. A lifelong metal fan with an old soul, Judas brings a love for Iron Maiden, Death Metal, Dio, classic festivals, dark history, fitness, film, and the power of being your true authentic self.

How did you first get into metal music, and what was the first band or album that hooked you?

Judas has been listening to metal music since her little creature days, around the age of seven. Her brother was the one who introduced her to metal music, and Iron Maiden was one of the first bands that truly hooked her.

What was the most memorable concert you’ve ever attended, and why did it stand out?

This is a very difficult question for Judas to answer because she has attended some amazing concerts, and they have all stood out in their own unique way.

Since Iron Maiden was one of the first metal bands she was introduced to, the 2017 Book of Souls tour in Houston, Texas was truly memorable. Not only was it the first time Judas ever experienced Iron Maiden live, but after listening to them for so long, it made the night even more special.

On top of that, she was also able to see another one of her favorite bands, Ghost, open for them. Talk about a bunch of thrills all in one.

What’s your favorite metal-related memory, whether it’s a concert, meeting a band member, or something else entirely?

All in all, it is just attending a metal show. The community, the people, and the music align so perfectly. When you are at a concert or event that falls into metal, it feels like we are in our own world.

Strangers become family in that very moment, and you just feel at home. It is the same with the goth community. Then, when those two worlds combine, it becomes a whole other world on an entirely different level.

Do you have a favorite metal subgenre? If so, what draws you to it?

Death Metal. The growls, the vocal range, and the aggression are what draw Judas in. Death Metal evolved from Thrash Metal, another thrilling subgenre, and it has also birthed and inspired many other subgenres.

What’s your go-to metal anthem when you need a boost of energy?

Difficult question, but you cannot go wrong with Dio. “The Last in Line” is an instant boost.

If you could attend any metal concert from any era, which one would it be and why?

Monsters of Rock 1984 Festival.

AC/DC, Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe, Gary Moore, Y&T, and Accept all on one bill would have been insane. Seeing those beyond amazing and talented individuals in their early days would have been something special.

Nothing compares to those classic Monsters of Rock Festival moments. To have been born earlier and experienced that era would have been incredible. Judas certainly has an old soul.

I know you like other forms of music as well. What are some of your non-metal favorites?

Depeche Mode is Judas’ number one favorite band of all time. Other favorites include The Doors, Joy Division, Boy Harsher, Twin Tribes, and so many more. The list can definitely go on.

Music is truly everything. Judas is also a major lover of the 1980s music era.

From your Instagram account, I see you like working out at the gym. Do you have a favorite band or album for that, or maybe just a playlist?

It is usually a mixture of all the bands Judas has named throughout these questions, along with many other bands and albums. It is difficult to choose just one. It also depends on the mood she is in.

What’s a metal album you think every fan should listen to at least once in their life?

Iron Maiden — Killers.

Outside of metal, what are some of your other hobbies and interests?

Fitness, films, writing, and dancing. Judas is also interested in Mother Nature, dark and strange history, and learning new and thrilling things. Knowledge is power.

Thank you for being our Metal Maiden of the Month. Is there anything you would like to add?

No matter what, always be you. Being your truest, most authentic self is what makes you unique. Despite what anyone says or thinks, self-love is what truly matters.

Be you. Stay kicking ass. Consistency is key in whatever you do, even with no motivation or inspiration. Consistency will get you there. Stay disciplined.
