Q&A With Valeria
1. How did you first get into metal music, and what was the first band or album that hooked you?
Well, I have been listening to rock music since I was 13 years old. Now I’m 25. My first rock band was Skid Row. My first metal band was October Tide.
2. What was the most memorable concert you’ve ever attended, and why did it stand out?
I think it was a concert by a local band called We Are the Brain. They had a unique sound.
One time Rachel Bolan from Skid Row was doing a live stream on Instagram. I commented “Hello from Russia,” and he noticed and said “hi” to me.
4. Do you have a favorite metal subgenre? If so, what draws you to it?
Doom metal, death metal, and doom/death metal. I love it because it’s dark, tragic, and heavy.
5. What’s your go-to metal anthem when you need a boost of energy?
That’s a tough question. Probably “By the Light” by Obituary.
6. If you could attend any metal concert from any era, which one would it be and why?
Candlemass early in their career. Their first albums are amazing.
7. How has being a female metal fan shaped your experience within the metal community?
I don’t have any difficulties about this.
8. You also play the guitar. Is that a hobby, or are you in or wanting to be in a band in the future?
Guitar is my life. Buying the guitar was the best decision in my life. I don’t have a band. I’m a solo musician.
9. What’s a metal album you think every fan should listen to at least once in their life?
Rain Without End by October Tide. It’s a reference for me.
10. Outside of metal, what are some of your other hobbies and interests?
I draw, learn the Norwegian language, read books, and make jewellery.
