For nearly two decades Ingested have been a powerhouse in the extreme metal scene. From 2009 to 2024 they have released ten albums, each album a reflection of their strength as musicians and the ability to hit the mark with their chosen direction. With such an outstanding discography, the news of their newest release, Denigration, is causing a frenzy of excitement and anticipation. Set to release on the 8th of May 2026, this newest addition is everything fans are hoping for and more.

There’s no question that Ingested are constantly pushing boundaries and themselves as musicians with every single release to date. Each album is a reflection of the band’s ability to create new sound that is clear and driven. Their first full length Surpassing the Boundaries of Human Suffering was later remastered, reintroducing fans to their gritty, slamming debut. Where Only Gods May Tread, released in 2020, was the album that lit the Ingested fire in my belly that I haven’t been able to extinguish ever since. It was well-rounded, professional, brutal death metal mastery, later released as an instrumental version in 2021. Horrifying riffs, brutality and intensified speed made up their second 2021 release The Serreption II, oozing with demonic darkness. They then grabbed the steering wheel and hooked a hard left into more unknown waters and produced Ashes Lie Still in 2022 and The Tide of Death and Fractured Dreams in 2024. Both albums are slam heavy, have drawn out melodies and modern production techniques that balance hammering brutality with atmospheric beauty. Some old school death metal influences are weaved in the mix as well.

As you hover your finger over the play emblem, about to embark on your first spin through Denigration, be ready to have your mind blown to pieces by Ingested’s most accomplished release to date. Brutality and technicality are taken to new heights with a real sense of maturity, a clear indication that there is no slowing down in sight for Ingested. The journey creating this album hasn’t been an easy one. Allegations surfaced against former vocalist Josh Davies which led to his immediate dismissal. The band then decided to remove him from the new release entirely and re-recorded vocals, covered by guitarist Sean Hynes and Andrew Virruetta. This decision emphasises the band’s direction and goal outcome for this definitive album. The cohesiveness of the remaining members translates in each song, complex structures that fit together like puzzle pieces to create the final picture.

“Musically, it’s us pulling every thread we’ve ever laid down over the years, slam, groove, melody, blackened dissonance, and twisting it into something that feels like a definitive statement rather than a reset.”

This album is a true indication of what Ingested has to offer at their highest level as musicians and as a band.

The treacherous, spiralling cave draped with human remains visually introduces listeners to the main theme of Denigration. Every sharp edge you climb over cuts and bruises until you reach a point of complete helplessness, facing a choice to perish like so many others or to use each cut and bruise as motivation to rise up and keep battling through. This is a euphemism for when a person is ground down to their absolute lowest in life and has to decide whether to let the hardships define them or strengthen them.

Listeners are immediately dragged into the terrifying abyss with the opening track “Dragged Apart,” featuring Skyler Conder. Horrifying eeriness quickly drops into lightning fast double kicks and ferocious vocals. It’s clear to listeners that the melodies of the previous two albums have been explored and, in their place, pure death metal brutality.

The second track “Merciless Reflection,” featuring PeelingFlesh, quickly became one of my favourite tracks. It has deep, slamming chugs, a heap of groove, unsettling switches and gurgling gutturals. “Watch You Fold,” featuring John Gallagher, has a riff section that you can’t help but swing your head to. Dual vocals in “Stitch By Stitch” make it a worthy sing-along whilst raising your fist in the air.

Groove drenched “Dredge the Dark,” featuring Kyle Medina, is a stand-out favourite. It just makes you want to stand up and do a stank face boogie. “Cold Sun” closes out the album and is the perfect night cap. It is pure, professional, technical death metal at the highest level. As with the whole album, each note hit by every instrument is crisp, highlighting the difficulty of the musicianship and Ingested’s skill-set.

If Ingested’s goal with the release of Denigration was to showcase what they have learned over the years as musicians and produce a levelled up next addition, it’s nothin’ but net! This is by far Ingested’s most dynamic, accomplished album to date, so take a journey into the cave of brutality and see if you can make it out unscathed.
