Decryptal – Simulacre
Review By: George Andritsakis
Review Score: 6

I don’t care what genre you are, if you’re coming out with your very first album, I will give it a spin. Such is the case with the Quebecois quartet of Decryptal. In what can only amount to the poutine of French-Canadian Death Metal, “Simulacre” is a roughly 38-minute bacchanal of gore metal that would make any horror fan or grindcore fan froth at the mouth in joyous disgust.
Several of the tracks have a fantastic groove even I can get behind, and the talent from the 4 bandmates shines through from start to finish. Now, the score I gave it is not a knock on the band by any means, I’m just not into this style of death metal, although I think it’s a very fair score considering it is their first full length release. I’ll keep a lookout for Decryptal and their future offerings, for sure, as they have so much potential left in the bag, and from the looks of things, they do have a sizeable and very rabid crowd rooting for them in Quebec. I certainly hope that filters out to the rest of Canada and on down over the border.
