DD Verni & The Cadillac Band drop “Two of a Kind” feat. Jim Heath (Reverend Horton Heat)
DD Verni & The Cadillac Band have released the second single, “Two of a Kind”, from the forthcoming album Buckle Up. The track marries rock ’n’ roll’s snap and swagger to a slick, swinging big-band arrangement — and features a special guest turn from Jim Heath (Reverend Horton Heat).
Written by Walden Cassotto (Bobby Darin) and Johnny Mercer, “Two of a Kind” first appeared on Darin & Mercer’s 1961 collaborative album of the same name. DD’s modern take tips the fedora to the classic while revving it up for 2025.
“Doing this song with the great Jim Heath was just a blast! …It speaks to the power of great songs.” — DD Verni
“The original version by Bobby Darin and Johnny Mercer really speaks to me… I’m thrilled to be on this recording and in the video.” — Jim Heath (Reverend Horton Heat)
About the album Buckle Up (out Sept 19 via Deko)
Buckle Up brings DD’s fun-first rocker’s approach to classic swing and crooner DNA — think Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Fats Domino — with evolved horn arrangements by Jim McMillen and a stacked studio lineup. It follows the 2021 debut Let’s Rattle and levels up the band’s big-band grit.
Bernie Dresel (drums), Johnny Hatton (slap bass), horn players from Paul McCartney / The Eagles, Or Matias (piano), Angus Clark (guitar), backing vocals by Kingston & GreyStarr.
Produced by DD Verni • Mixed by Michael Frondelli • Recorded in NJ & LA
